Best Day Ever!

William decided that today was the day and that was it. Off went the training wheels on his bike. I've always had images of this day in my head, William on his bike, all wiggly-waggly with Scott or I racing behind him to keep him steady. But no, like you can see in the video, the wheels were off, Scott and the wall of our house helped him to get his balance and off he went. He rode around our driveway all afternoon, with Rosie following him on one of her many bikes or cars. He claimed many times that today was the best day of his life and that he was the happiest kid in the world, "or at least in Waterloo". You can hear Rosie in the background saying, "Fix my bike too."

As for this one, I give her a year.

So last night. The swimming was great, very happy kids. Long story short William is telling everyone that it was his "best swimming class ever". Hooray!

So this morning we moved on to his first birthday party for a school friend. At an indoor wild play structure. Ended up with all of us there, kids loved it. Sigh, another sign of them growing up. William's first chance at getting tokens to use to play games and collect prizes. He choose a sugar stick and something else so perfect it can only be shown, and not told about. Wait for a picture.Rosie was crying for a red sucker so hard the nice kid behind the counter gave her one for free. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

**Rosie perhaps up from nap, quick intermission**

OK, she's up and boys are outdoors turning over the soil in our vegetable garden, plus adding six - count 'em - six bags of sheep poo. William just popped inside to give me a dandelion and the smell of earth he brought in with him was perfect. I need to get Rosie up and put on my digging boots. Wait, another William visit, with cut daffodils to add to the vase here on my desk. Ahh, loving the luxuries of having an office!

Going to run, we've got us some planting to do.
And some minivans to test drive! It's time.

ps - As I was just rereading this William came in with more flowers. His pant leg had escaped his boot and when I told him to tuck it back in he said, "Why? The dirt's not going to get me."
Right. I forget that when it comes to my kids and dirt, they have all become one.

Sorry Fishies

Quick note before bed. Cute swimming pink fish which were seen above and that you could actually feed by clicking around them, were sucking up too much power and making my already over-worked computer quite feverish. They had to go. William will be disappointed.

Today was a fun day despite this minor setback. It was our first trip to the farmer's market this spring and we made a new batch of granola bars that we are addicted too. Maybe tomorrow I'll put up a link to the website where I found the recipe. More biking and swinging outside, and William learned about garbage dumps in school. A perfect Earth Day I'd say.

Lots of library trips this week, just before dinner time, before Scott comes home which leads to this..

...which in turn leads to a happy Mommy and Daddy who get to spend some time together making dinner.

Tomorrow is swimming lesson night and this week both kids only have Scott in the pool with them for the first half and then he gets out and they're on their own. William is already claiming he needs to skip the lesson in order to go to bed early and rest up before his big weekend (going to a birthday party and Aunt Bonnie is coming!). So we'll have to see how these pink fishies do.
I'll let you know.

In and Out, Here and There, Up and Up!

OK, This is a big one, so bear with me. This picture is showing you where I am sitting right now. At my own desk in my very own office. I still can't believe it. Paint is done, floor is down, just decorating left to do! I have to keep myself from jumping up and down just thinking about it. Even this morning while everyone slept and I stole away down here at 6am, I still felt like jumping, just with my eyes closed and a cup of coffee nearby.

To get here, it took a lot of work from three important men. It took a lot of....

and a lot of him. And unfortunately I don't have pictures of Dad/Gramps doing his fair, heavy share of the work, keeping the youths in line, you know what I mean. I couldn't keep myself from poking my nose in the door every few hours asking them if I'd said thank you lately. They learned early on to ignore me. But THANK YOU!! And also to Mom/Oma for supervising the children while I followed my guilty conscience and made as much food as possible for everyone.

But today was difficult for me. Despite the beautiful weather (and smiles you see above and below) I wanted to be in my room, writing. It felt like such a tease. But the weather and more importantly, my children had other plans. So here we are enjoying the day, and our garden, as we mark our one year anniversary of the day we moved in. Hooray!

We can only go up from here.

Happy Boy

Here's a boy who's reading books, going to birthday parties, almost off his training wheels and growing sunflowers in the windowsill. There's a lot to be happy about when it's spring and you're almost 5.

Quiet Sunshine

Just enjoying.
