So these are the comics that the kids have been working on this morning with Scott. William drew all his own pictures (except for the dragon, that was my contribution) and wrote the text. Rosie's pictures are ones she coloured and we cut out, she also wrote all of her story . Click on the comics to make them easier to read. I think they'd be great for a tshirt! :)

Still snow, still sick kids, still playing and drawing race car tracks and watching too much tv. Still watching things planned on the calendar go by ignored and canceled. Still loving the view out of my kitchen window.

So I'll try to enjoy the still.

What Happy Looks Like

This picture makes me happy. How couldn't it? They were happy when I took it, just a little sick if at all then, I don't remember. I'm thinking a lot about happiness right now, working on a piece about it. The best happiness, I'm beginning to figure out, is the kind when you're not thinking about it, not trying to be it or look for it, but rather when you're lost in it completely, without pressure, and only realize it later when looking at a perfect picture of your two children, one with a gap where his baby tooth used to be and the other smiling just like you do, so fully that her eyes disappear.

We got out today! Finally, after an entire week spent inside, wanting to get out, even trying, dipping a toe out the front door in hopes when one of us would burst into a coughing fit and eyes would look far too runny and red to be made to leave the warmth of indoors. But today, with all of us on the mend except poor Rosie, we were off, in the snow, driving up hills barely, playing in Zellers and eating donuts at Tim Hortons in the mall. I even went to my first yoga class today and loved it. It was hot yoga and I will not burden you with the details of just how much I sweat because this is a post about happiness and that will not make you happy, nooooo.

So we got out, us four, and slipped all snowy around town quite giddy and silly and realizing now, very happy.

Post-Christmas Glow

It was here for awhile, the glow after a satisfying, cozy, not too busy, not too many days spent in pjs until noon Christmas. It was balanced and perfect this year, not to mention insane. I believe it's going to get more fun each year as the kids get older, a perfect mix of traditions and new things to try out. But now there are colds, and my sore knee, and plans to do lots (like swimming and music classes, writing, poetry group, a bookclub, maybe yoga?) but things keep getting in the way. So we'll rest for a bit, just enough to get ourselves up and going again, and then we'll be off. But on the very good side of things, with this down time there are lots of toys to be played with, lots of new books to be devoured by me and if I'm lucky, some leftover chocolates hidden here and there.
And that castle you see before the kids in the bottom left-hand corner of the pictures was made by Scott and it's amazing!
